Renting & Borrowing Maternity Dresses

So you want to look absolutely STUNNING for your photos but don’t want to drop a ton of cash on the perfect dress? Who says you have to go out and spend a bunch of money on a dress you’ll wear one, maybe two times? You should try renting your maternity dress!

Renting or borrowing a dress for your photoshoot is often something many people don’t think of, and I just might have a couple insights up my sleeve to help you and your wallet out on this.

This momma came to SLAY her maternity photos. She has a year’s worth of sessions set up (newborn, six-month, and one-year), so this was such a fun way to play and get the year started.

This is her third baby boy and they are just the absolute sweetest family. She wanted some family photos and some glam ones, and we definitely delivered. So how do you decide what to wear when you want a few different looks (or even just one)?

Ask Your Photographer About Borrowing a Dress

When it comes to renting a dress, first ask your photographer if they have a client closet available! This dear client donated this lacy green mermaid dress so that I can have it for future clients. I have several other maternity dresses that clients can borrow for their photos as well. This is the most affordable way to go about finding a maternity dress you love but not spend a ton of money. Borrowing from my client closet is 100% FREE. Most of the dresses I have are stretchy, so they are made to fit all different sizes!

Online Shops for Renting Dresses

If your photographer happens to not have a client closet available, make sure to check out online shops. I have a referral code with https://mamabumprentals.com where clients can rent dresses at a discounted price. Etsy.com also has shops that allow you to rent dresses for a price.

Renting your dress is the perfect way to get a gown that you will only wear once for a great price. And if you don’t want to rent, Amazon has great options for dresses as well. In fact, the green lace mermaid dress in these photos came from Amazon! There are great options no matter your price point.

Both of these options are not only great ways to save you money, but they are also incredibly sustainable ways to get a different look while helping the environment. That’s truly a win-win!

If you want a documentary-style newborn session but don’t want to do it in your home, choosing a studio newborn session is a great option! About the Studio When I designed my studio in Midtown Sacramento, I wanted to make it feel like a home away from home. When you walk in, I didn’t want […]

When you’re planning a photo session for you and your partner, my best advice is to make it a date night!  Why Date Night? No one wants to look at their photos and see stiff, awkward poses. While life can be quite awkward sometimes, your photos shouldn’t feel that way. And they certainly shouldn’t feel […]

That first chapter as a growing family is so special. And to have your newborn session documented at home is the most incredible experience. It allows you to capture life as it is – slower, a little messy, and full of love. Why Choose a Documentary-Style Newborn Session I firmly believe that time is a […]
