It All Began With One Simple "Yes"
On a cold Chicago February day in 2013, my husband came home and asked what I thought about moving to California. As a teacher who loved her job and as someone who did not love change, I was quite surprised when I said, "Let's do it!" We moved in June of 2013 after I finished teaching, and the rest is history.
Now, most days you can find me in jeans and a
t-shirt with a headband on and some snacks nearby; mom life and business life tend to overlap around the house. When the kids are napping, I'm usually curled up on the couch with my computer and our two cats, Gus and Minnie.
My husband, Will, and I are one of those crazy high school sweetheart couples that have been together for 15+ years. What a blessing it's been to grow up together while growing together. We love being outside with our kids and letting the clean laundry pile up for days before folding. (Seriously, how does anyone stay on top of kid laundry?!) We love our quiet nights at home and dream about summers in Michigan on Lake Superior.
Life is all about seasons. Some are exciting, some are a little chaotic, and some are downright difficult. But every season of life is worth capturing.
My days as a middle school and high school English teacher were some of my favorite seasons. Although I'm not teaching in a classroom now, a few of my teacher habits have maintained a strong grip on me. I'm a little obsessed with my paper planner, and it keeps this teacher-turned-mom boss organized at all times. And really... who doesn't want a reason to use stickers on a regular basis?
To be honest, my life is vastly different than I expected it to be. As a Chicagoan, I certainly never expected to be dodging winter and living amongst palm trees in nature's playground. But it's those amazingly unexpected twists and turns that have made me who I am today. I've learned to celebrate each season as it comes and enjoy being more present with my family.
