Sacramento Studio Newborn Session

If you want a documentary-style newborn session but don’t want to do it in your home, choosing a studio newborn session is a great option!

About the Studio

When I designed my studio in Midtown Sacramento, I wanted to make it feel like a home away from home. When you walk in, I didn’t want it to feel stuffy or cold; rather, I wanted it to feel calming and like a big hug. And Collective Lens Studio does just that. It is the only ADA Accessible studio in Sacramento and even has its own bathroom and kitchenette. With coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and water available to all clients, the studio is a space to come and relax while documenting some of your most precious moments.

How do you capture the documentary feeling in a studio?

Using a variety of stools, couches, chairs, and pillows in combination with the more industrial ceiling and big windows and doors, I use gentle art direction to capture your newly-expanded family in a relaxed and comfortable environment. The goal is always to document the real moments, no matter the setting. I always want kids to be kids and for everyone to act like you’re at home ok the couch as you do every day. That’s when the authenticity really shines through.

What should we bring to a studio newborn session?

Plan on bringing your little one in a onesie or pajamas and then we can get them ready at the studio. I have wraps in a wide variety of colors to match your nursery decor and your outfits. However, many times we photograph babies in onesies! After all, we’re aiming for authentic, and there’s nothing more true to life than a baby in a onesie.

The studio is equipped with a changing table, diapers of all sizes, and wipes in case you need any extra. I’d also recommend bringing a pacifier and two feedings’ worth of breastmilk or formula, even if you don’t think your little one will need to eat that much. When it comes to Photo Day, many babies use all of their energy looking super cute and end up needing a little extra sustenance.

Can we bring siblings and grandparents?

Of course! A new baby is such a blessing to a whole family, and it’s important to capture them with their whole family. We’ll talk before your studio newborn session and I’ll be able to give you a full plan of how and when we’ll be able to take photos with everyone.

If you’re ready to schedule your studio newborn session, let’s chat and figure out how to best serve you and your growing family!

When you’re planning a photo session for you and your partner, my best advice is to make it a date night!  Why Date Night? No one wants to look at their photos and see stiff, awkward poses. While life can be quite awkward sometimes, your photos shouldn’t feel that way. And they certainly shouldn’t feel […]
