When it comes to capturing pregnancy, there are so many ways to make your photos your own. If you’re looking for something really unique, personal, and vulnerable, milk bath photography is for you.
How Does a Milk Bath Session Work?
During milk bath sessions, you can wear whatever you want. I have a few options in my client closet, or you can bring whatever else you want. These sessions can be done either in your home or mine (all of these photos were done in my home). It’s important that the light is good in whatever bathroom we’re in, so keep that as a consideration when you’re thinking about where to do the session. My bathroom happens to have an enormous window with light-diffusing glass right over the tub, so it truly creates that *chef’s kiss* light that we’re after.
You can also bring whatever flowers you want to float in the tub that we’ve filled with a combination of water and milk, and we make sure that the color combo is exactly what you’re looking for. You’re more than welcome to bring your own outfit to wear, or I have a few options in my client closet. Or if you’re really feeling adventurous, you can always just cover yourself strategically with flowers. There is no one way to do these sessions.
FAQs
Is the water cold? – Nope! It starts on the warmer side (but obviously not too hot for pregnancy). By the end of the half hour, the water is starting to cool down but it’s still comfortable.
Is there any clean-up? – This depends on where we do the session! I take care of all clean-up if we do the session in my home, and I always help my mommas clean if we do the session in yours. You’re never alone in the clean-up process.
I feel awkward in front of the camera, so this seems stressful. Would this still be a good session for me? – YES! These sessions are made for you to feel powerful and sexy, and I promise they’re so much fun. This client said that her milk bath session was the more relaxing photo session she’s ever done!
How long do these sessions last? – Usually about 30 minutes from the time the photographing starts. There’s a little setup involved before with the flowers, and then it takes a minute to change into whatever outfit you’re wearing. But when you’re all done, you get to go back home in sweats, so it’s basically a short spa day.
When is the best time to book these sessions? – These can be done around the same time as a more traditional maternity session, which I usually say is around 28-32 weeks depending on your personal preference and schedule. We want you to be comfortable and feeling as good.
These sessions are truly so fun to customize, and they’re an amazing way to commemorate this special time in your life.
