When you think of celebrating milestones and taking photos, I’m sure your mind immediately goes to first birthdays and cake smashes. Well first birthdays aren’t the only ones where you can do fun things! It’s also a great excuse to incorporate family photos and get early pictures for holiday cards. Kids are only little for a short time and they grow so fast! So let’s celebrate it all!!

Birthdays & Celebrations

Like I said before, don’t just limit yourself to first birthdays and cake smashes when you think of celebrating milestones. I personally really love to do 6 month (or “sitter”) photos because you really start to see the child’s personality but they can’t run around as much as a one year old can! And then there are two year olds, like this sweet babe, who often times you’re able to direct a little better because they understand more.

When you think of milestones, think out of the ordinary. Maybe celebrating each birthday or even finishing potty training! Maybe new sibling photos or photos with your new pet! Really it can be anything that documents a new chapter in your child’s life.

When this little girl just leaned over and dug in to her donuts to eat them off the cake stand without her hands, I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. It was the perfect way to end a session, and her energy was absolutely what I love to see during these sessions. It’s the best when little kids really show you who they are and you’re able to capture that.

Grow With a Family

As a photographer, when you’re able to capture many milestones in a child’s and family’s life, you really grow along with the family as well. I first started taking photos for this family a few years ago. It is absolutely one of my favorite things to do. Being able to capture families over and over again.

These photos were for their daughter’s second birthday, and Mom was so worried about getting photos of the family at the same time. But she was thrilled when she saw the end result and how many photos we were able to get of the family and the siblings.
