I'm here to help you make your dreams a reality! Let's talk about your ideas!

I know that there are already so many things going through your head when it comes to being pregnant and prepping for baby. So bear with me when I say that booking maternity photos should definitely be on that list! Now, we won’t get into why you should be taking maternity photos in the first place (we will save that for another blog post another day) but let’s talk logistics on when you should book and when exactly to have them taken.

When You Should Book Maternity Photos

The timeline for this is very different for each person. I’ve known people who book as soon as they found out they were expecting! If you’re not that type of person, I recommend reaching out to your photographer anywhere between 20-24 weeks. This gives you enough time between booking and shooting to get everything you’re wanting for your session such as clothing, props, etc. Read my blog post here about how you can go about renting a dress for maternity photos!

Side note: I’ve taken this couples’ photos ever since their engagement session, so I’ve gotten to know them really well over the years! This maternity session was incredibly special to be a part of. While we were in the middle of their session, they were both asking me about baby names and which ones I liked more (because they each had their own first choice). After the baby was born, I laughed knowing that Mama got her way (as any person going through labor should).

When To Take Maternity Pictures

When it comes to taking maternity photos, I like to think that there is a sweet spot. You want your bump to be pretty pronounced but you also don’t want to wait too long! The last thing you want is to be either uncomfortable or not be able to do your session at all if Baby comes earlier than expected. The window I like to shoot for with my clients is anywhere from 28-32 weeks. That way things can be more comfortable for you when moving around during your session.

This mama also took some dreamy milk bath maternity photos that you can check out here!
